Know its a pretty open ended question but gona ask it anyway. Basically Thailand is gona be the last leg on our RTW tour, and the only stop in Asia. So really looking for an island to chill out at for a couple of weeks before have to get back to reality, i.e. the full time jobs. Would be appreciated if anyone could point us in the right direction. Also, is it pretty easy to get to them from Bangkok?

Hello Snow

I liked Koa Pha Ngan, but hated Ko Samui. Have not yet been to any of the other islands.

Ko Pha Ngan is easy, to get to, from Bangkok. Just get the train, or bus to Surat Thani. There will be plenty of agents, when u step off the bus or train looking to sell u a ticket, to the island.

Everybody who posts will have their favorite island to recommend. I am guessing that you will be arriving in BKK and then leaving from BKK for your flight home. I am going to say Phuket. You can hop a pretty cheap flight or take an overnight bus. Once there, you have many isands to choose from. Koh Phi Phi is probably the best known, but there are many others. Koh Lanta, Koh Jum, Koh Siboya or the many smaller islands just off the Krabi coast are also easily accessible. Google this area and see if it is what your are looking for. Good Luck with your RTW trip.

My twopence worth:

Ko Phi Phi for really beautiful beaches.

Ko Lanta for a quiet, more laid-back island experience.

Most people I know liked Ko Pha Ngan (I've not been).

Koh Phangan is nice, Koh Tao if you like diving, both you can get to easy by bus or train and ferry, you can get a bus and ferry from Lomprayah from Bangkok, it costs about 1,000 baht.
Koh Chang is relaxed, there are lotas of beaches and islands you can get to cheap by bus or train, it's not difficult.
if you want touristy places with nightlife then Phuket or Samui, but there is such a good choice so what do you want do do ? or just relax ?
