everyone seems to talk about Greyhound and the Oz experience. I want to know the names of other companies that do a hop-on/hop-off bus pass sydney to Cairns. That also include things like 20 days accomodation in various places like frazer island, whitsundays. I know they exsist cos a girl i met in a queue told me she's doing it...thing is, she didn't know the company name!!! very frustrating. Can anyone help me out?

i'm in a suburb of sydney at the moment and want to buy- i plan to leave next week. so its not easy for me to 'pop' in to the city to different travel agents.

thanks, jen

Hey, Sorry i can't help but I too want some other way of travelling the east coast as have spent alot of time in a greyhound bus in WA and NT! I am thinking about doing a surf trip from Sydney to Byron bay though, It takes 4/5 days and costs approx $100/day incl accom, travel, food and surf. There are quite a few companies who do this kind of tour if your interested. one is called 'Surfari' or somethng like that.
As far as from Byron bay- Cairns I still don't have any idea but I have got 6wks to decide. So if you do here about anything please let me know.
Cheers, Corinne :)

Try here:
http://www.reservations.bookhostels.com/tours/travellerspoint.com/tourdetails.php?TourUID=2966
The Sunseeker Pass allows you to travel along the route from Sydney to Cairns, stopping as often and for as long as you like!
Departs From: Sydney Returns to: Cairns
Visits: Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise, Brisbane, Noosa, Rainbow Beach, Hervey Bay, Airlie Beach, Mission Beach, Cairns

Also try googling: Adventure Tours Australia.

You can also check Easyrider Backpacker Tours , but I think they may be only Western Australia.

I hope this helps!

I'm a travel agent from Sydney and I would recommend oz-ex or greyhound over some of the other companies such as premier. You can get a Koala Queensland package that will give you 20 night 3 day Fraser tour and 2 night Whitsundays sailing trip. there are heaps of crap companies and it is probably worth spending the extra $$ to do it properly. If you're on a budget get a few friends and buy or rent (try wicked campers or backpackers auto barn) a van. The bus generally flys right past the best places!

Can you get to Bondi Beach? There is a great travel shop called 'Backpackers World' under Noahs Backpackers (big blue hostel can't miss it). Ask for a guy called Don, he will help you. The Oz Experience is a fab way to travel, but it seems really expensive when you are in Oz and working in dollars. It's mainly for meeting people more easily. The greyhound is fab too, I would recommend that over other companys, although I went on premier too which is slightly cheaper I think and that was fine. Fraser Island and Whitsundays you need to be careful as a lot of companys rip you off with stupidly cheap deals and there have been stories to do with boats and crappy fraser trips. I REALLY recommend Cool Dingo Tour on Fraser Island. They are not a self drive company, you tour round with a guide, but they take you to the best places and you meet people without the worry of crashing, burning clutch etc in a 4 x 4 which then means you have to pay out of the deposit you give. I went on the tour twice, (only because my sister came out later in my trip and wanted to go too). Both times was amazing. Make sure you clearly tell the travel agent what type f whitsundays boat you want, they sway you off your choice due to commision (not global travel, but others), and tyou end up with something you don't want. Tell them if you want a lazy boat or a party boat, and 100% if you get sea sick take tablets before you go otherwise it's not pretty after just introducing yourself to everyone on board... then throwin up over the side! Sorry for babbling, message me if need any more info!
Em xx

Premier buses do a hop on hop off service and I think is cheaper than greyhound but only have 1 bus a day where as greyhound has more so you don't have as much flexibility. As for tours and stuff,I used peter pan (you should be able to find a website for them if you google it) there are more (wicked travel I think is another) can't remember other names but if you can email or call them if you can't get into town, get a quote and let them compete with each other to give you a better price.

Hi,

Wicked Travel are great. I booked my 6 month Premier Motor Services pass from Sydney to Cairns including 3d/2n Fraser Island 4x4 safari and 2n/3d Whitsunday tour. Cost $650. Very good staff seem to know what they are on about.

Premier have 3 buses a day from Sydney to Brisbane then one a day from Brisbane to Cairns, buses comfortable lots of leg room and stops.

Hope that this helps.

  • wicked travel have outlets on Darlinghurst Rd, Kings Cross

Pitt St, Sydney CBD
Johnson St, Byron Bay
