i've been looking into trekking mount everest up to 1st base camp. I've been searching around the net and most sites say, starting from Kathmandu for a 17day tour it will cost around £1200. Anybody know of anything any cheaper? Also when is the best time to do this in order to get the best views?

Thanks in advance

My estimated trekking cost for EBC is around USD670~700 for 15 days trekking. I will do it on my own, with a guide or porter. I won't join the tourist group.

Intrepid Travel do a 14 day Everst Base Camp trek for under £500 but that doesn't include flights.

i did the EBC treck two years ago without any guides or porters, just with two friends of mine. The flight one way to/from Lukla cost at that time around 90 USD. I walked from Jiri and spent on the trek 24 days, the more time you have the more enjoyable the whole trip will be. My average spendings per day were somewhere around 15 USD. You should get by 20 USD/day on the trek easily. If you need porter/guide, then it´s gonna be more expensive, but I guess you do not need them really. If you want to go with a guide or a tour, I would wait untill you get to Kathmandu and then organise it yourself. It definitely will be much less expensive than the figures you wrote.
