Hi there,

I really would apreciate any advice. There are 2 of us travelling together and funds are running low. Currently in Sydney and find the accommodation situation really expensive. Not sure if we are looking in the right area. Can't see ourselves saving money here at all. Was thinking about moving out to do rural work either on farms or country pubs. Willing to work hard for a couple of months. Would prefer somewhere with accomodation. If anyone has any advice on agencies that would be helpful or areas that would have such places that would be great. Would appreciate any help or advice.

Hi both of you. I am not sure if you like children or not, but they are fairly relaxed on Nanny work in Oz, mums just tend to be fairly ok (they meet with you obviously first) about backpackers looking after their children. I know it's not so sociable, but you do have eachother for starting out, but many Nanny jobs offer accomodation in their home as well as paying you (some are quite well off). So it's handy for dedicating to saving as inhostels you can get carried away with the social side and get in the 'Sydney Trap' as many of my friends did, and end up just earning to live and go out! There are loads and loads of job offers on the walls in the Travellers Contact Point on George Street in Sydney. Its in a place called the Dymocks Building on the 7th floor. Locals should know where to direct you (I am terrible with directions), but you will find a whole wall full of different full and part time, live in and live out Nanny jobs, pls if not interested in that there are HEAPS more jobs advertised in there for backpackers. Good luck!
P.s - farm and outback work is a great experience too and I think can also be organised in that building if you feel you just want yo get up and get moving with the travelling!
Em x

Hi smurfette2

When we were in Sydney we stayed in Kings Cross and it was pretty cheap. I know it's not the nicest area of town but, it might save you some money. D'Lux was nice (for Kings Cross) and we felt very safe there.

I don't know if either of you have office experience but, I spent a day registering with a few agencies for some office-type work and was working the very next day. Typical wage range is $17-21 per hour. Not bad!

Good luck.
