Lots of budget hotels around the Bus Station in Cancun, in the early morning, shower, shave, s--t and out. Before you head to Tulum, make your Mexican Bus reservations to Chetumal on the Belize Border, and I believe also you can reserve a First Class Bus (Batty Bus Chetumal -BZ City) all the way into Belize City, then Belize City to Flores (Tikal) Peten Guatemala there, again this is high (tropical dry) season through April so do your homework before arrival to avoid delays. Don't try and stock up on cheap duty free Mexican perishable foods in laying over in Chetumal (Duty Free port) the BZ Customs will confiscate it, prices for foodstuffs, imported from Europe, Canada and UK via Caribbean in Belize are expensive, the BZ Dollar is fixed 2 to 1 USD and US Dollars widely accepted, the Guatemalan Quetzal is roughly Q7.75 to 1USD, be careful changing at land borders though, some of the money changers have fixed calculators and will try to scam you for up to 30% or so. Guatemala is much more economical than Belize. The Airport at Flores is small and efficent, several daily flights to Guate city (Aurora National or the International Airport, depending carrier, now mostly TACA, our C.A. monopoly carrier, as they put smaller airline 'Tikal Jets' out of business recently) Zone 13, a nice middle class area of the city, near to teh airports and entertainment district of zona Viva..Zone 10... where are located many excellent B and Bs and Guest Houses for $10USD per person or up, all of these establishments provide some local transport and travel advices for visiting antigua and the Guatemalan highlands, for specific url s and contacts message me with your e mail.

I would try to fly in one location and out of the other. Main reason is the travel time it would take a few days by bus to back track, you could do a large circle but again may not be worth it.

Guatemala is great, check out Tikal, Panajachel, Antigua and be sure to hit the islands in Belize - Caye Caulker.

Happy to help out with any travel info.
