I did the trek with Pachamama Explorers and it was just under $300. This was a discounted rate though, and before the high season. They were a small organization and quite good. http://www.pmexplorers.com/

While travelling in PERU was not expensive (bus, food, accommodation), the main ticket items that we wanted to visit (so as everyone else) where top dollar for sure. Be ready to pay full western world prices for it (even things like simple bus ride from a train station to the entrance to Machu Pichu- oouch). You do need to account for this when planning places to visit. But no avoiding this and you would need to account for it. Everything else- can be done on a budget for sure!

When you see that the last post in a thread has been marked as potential spam, have a look at the timestamp of the post above it; this one for example says "11y", meaning that the thread hasn't seen activity in 11 years, and that answers most likely won't ever be read by the original posters. If you refrain from replying, the thread will then disappear from the forum view again as soon as a moderator has cleaned up the spam. If you do reply, then it'll have been permanently bumped up to the present, and more people will write answers that the original posters won't ever gain any benefit from. (Though of course future readers might still appreciate those answers.) :)

New rules took effect Jan. 1, 2019 on visits to Machu Picchu. Several Web sites have information, including the official one: https://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/inicio.

Suggest looking at more than the official Web site for a better understanding of what's happening.
