some friends and i are thinking of doing a 14 day tour of thailand which covers the main points in the north starting on either the 30th nov or 1st dec 2007- after this we were thinking of flying to the south...where should we go? we have about 10 days, is it possible to do phuket (doing a day trip to phi phi islands), koh samui & krabi..or would this be too difficult in a 10 day time frame?
and what is the easiest way to get from place to place

10 days is too short to visit all 3, but focusing on two is doable. Staying in one is not a punishment either, because the places are ment to be for relaxing and partying mainly and some trips on the water. You can fly between several places, but taking a boat to Koh Samui is an option as well. Maybe focus on Krabi and Koh Samui and skip phuket.

I'd say that unless you were flying from Ko Samui to Phuket you wouldn't have time for everything. So, just do Krabi and Phuket. From Krabi you can do day trips to the beachs of Ao Nang, Hat Ton Sai, and Hat Rai Leh - then you can take a boat to Phi Phi - and then by boat to Phuket. Krabi itself is a cool place to base yourselves unless you like throngs of noisy tourists, in which case you can stay in crowded Ao Nang. Anyway, if you stay on this side of the peninsula there are many places to visit by boat.

Have fun!

I have just found your post, it may be too late now. But I have stayed in Ao Nang for around 10 days on a two week tour of Thailand and it was really nice. It was before the tsunami, and i believe it was not badly affected. I went to Krabi town which I thought was a bit crowded and there wasn't much to see but street vendors. We took lots of boat trips out onto tiny islands and saw some great wildlife. The beaches were lovely, some cleaner and whiter than others. There are great cafe's and bars to sit around in if you feel lazy too! but it was a great place to stay, i'd fully reccomend a trip to Ao Nang.

Southern Thailand. You can try Ranong as well and Surat Thani which is near Koh Samui. There, you should go to Grandpa and Grandma's stones. Its funny if you know the reasons behind the name. Phuket is quite dirty now. Polluted. Phi Phi Island will be cool! ;)
