Moving around and inside China, what's supposed to be better, the train or the bus? I'm talking about short trips of a couple of hours between destinations. And regarding costs, comfort and time.

Thanks so much! ;)

Hi, take a overnight train is the beat choice. You can have hard sleeper or soft sleeping birth. You can save money(need't book hotel). But you need study a little bit Chinese, so you can buy tickets and travel independently.
Good luck!

I would always take the train (especially overnight train) over the bus. They're safer, cheaper, more punctual and more comfortable. Buses have smokers who don't hesitate to smoke on them, are more expensive, aren't always punctual, drivers usually have bad driving skills and there're no toilets on them.

Take the train - the bus is a nightmare: crowded, tiny and full of smokers. I took a public bus from Chengdu to Songpan and at times I thought I was going to die. I took an overnight soft sleeper from Beijing to Chengdu and it was quite comfortable however the one issue I had with the trains was the constant spitting inside the train even on the rugs.
