Being a vegetarian and animal lover and having just been in the philippines it is distressing to see how some of the animals are kept etc.One example is at Robelle House,Valdez STReet,Makati a pension house where sadly a cockatoo has been kept in a small cage for the last 30 years ,coming from australia it sucks to see this bird ,bored with no stimulation .If you decide to stay there the least you can do is voice your opposition to this ,the more westerners that speak up the more they will think about how they keep birds etc.

Don't we westerners, keep that kind of animals and lots more as pets as well?
I don't like to see it either, even not being a vegetarian. Fact is that treatment of animals especially in several asian countries is below any level and chinese eat everything with 4 legs except chairs and tables. But I guess it's way of like considering the consumption of these animals for food. I can live with that to a certain degree.

I can not live with te fact though that some people slaughter animals and poaching them because they THINK that's some of the animals' parts are good for a long life...s*x etc etc. That's is so pathetic, killing the last tigers or the last asian lions or the last asian elephants and rhinos. People who THINK that might be good, are so plain stupid, they should be hanged immediately.

i saw a guy in china with a huge trolly full of gold fish keyrings for sale

basically he had like xmas tree baubles that were see through, had a few stones in the bottom and filled with water and then a goldfish inside! it was bloody horrible, they then had a little lid so u cud feed it and a key chain attached!! it was horrific to see!

i also saw kittens and puppies in the smallest of cages so small they couldnt turn around!

one thing you have to remember with asia is that life is so worthless out here that they only thing that is worth less than a human is an animal... i know you may say its not an excuse but lets face it, us westerners treat animals better than we treat other humans!

something should be done though, they need educating that its wrong to treat animals so badly
