Hi All.

I'm quite new to the site and wanted to share my latest hopes and goals to see if anyone has thought or done similar. Late summer/early fall 07 I plan to go abroad to volunteer/work to get experience to feel out a career in development work. I was hoping to find an organization that would allow for multiple placements (a few months at a time), providing an opportunity to do a bit of traveling and really learn about different cultures and approaches to struggles in developing countries. (Also hope to finish off in Europe with a bit of a biking venture...though struggling over doing this alone..)

This place is great - already feel like I've been able to take a lot from the posts on here. Thanks a bunch for any experiences, advice, etc.

hi jack, from what i've seen on my trip in south east asia you may want to consider finding voluntary work independantly. there are a lot of organisations around and you could find placements for a few weeks or months at a time undertaking different types of work. there is a lot going on in cambodia which is desperate for help. good luck with it, pete

I find this website very helpful to find volunteer work:

Thanks both. I've been finding that many volunteers ops have a lot to do with teaching...so I'm leaning towards doing the TEOFL cert and then working to sustain me, while trying to do volunteering as well....I found a program in Egypt that seems soo awesome. But I also want to check out Asia and I'm not sure it its best to just get the cert in the same country I want to stay in...In the works on that one.
