Deribasovskaya (Russian: Дерибасовская) is a pedestrian walkway in the heart of Odessa, Ukraine. What lends Deribasovskaya its unique character is magnificent architecture, tons of people leisurely sitting on terraces of numerous cafes and restaurants, perfect cobblestones, no vehicle traffic and big shady linden trees. Deribasovskaya leads to the City Gardens with its fountain, old summerhouse and sculpture of lion and lioness. City Gardens were laid out shortly after the foundation of Odessa and were its first park. The Souvenir Market with a crowd of artists and craftsmen demonstrating their works is situated right here. Prices are really low, and some items are gorgeous. Don't miss it if you want to get originally Odessa souvenirs.

In the summer Deribasovskaya Street is covered with a vast assortment of cozy cafes where one can have a healthy rest after a lengthy stroll around the city. Each year Deribasovksaya gets more beautiful and of course, more crowded with tourists.

While petty thieves are common in Odessa as in the rest of Ukraine, however it is still generally safer here than in most American cities. Violent crime in Odessa is seldom. Most crimes in Odessa involves pettiness such as pick-pocketing and money scams. Precautions include not flaunting valuables while on Odessa streets, watching your pockets in crowded places or walking alone at night through city streets or parks.

That one is up to you ;)

Good luck!

I'm sorry, but there's been too many spammers posting links about Odessa Apartment websites. I've had to remove the link you posted for that reason.

I've been to Ukraine and Odessa many times. Odessa is a beautiful city and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Don't worry about crime unless you plan to close down the pubs while drinking throughout the night then stumble home. Then you may have a problem.

As far as apartments, search "Odessa Apartments" and you'll find many places available. Hotels are way too expensive. However, also beware of some of the apartment places. I stayed in a new "apartment hotel" late last year and found out that pictures don't always tell the whole story.

They claimed English speaking staff, barely true on a few parts, mostly not. Owner turned out to be an American whose character is questionable. More importantly, the place was filthy, outside area was full of trash, too many over claims to note on this forum. Bottom line is beware of the apartment hotel and seek out a nice apartment in a residencial building in the city center.
