Oh this just from official info, or have you actually been asked at one of the ports?

No, I havent been, to one of the ports. The information comes from the South East Asia on a Shoestring book. So there is hope.

Hi Claire,
If you are flying into Indonesia from say Australia or other major countries you will probably not be able to buy a ticket to Indonesia unless you purchase a return.
If you are flying into say Singapore or somewhere in Asia, you should be o.k. They may still ask for an onward ticket but they do not seem to ask as much thses days because of the paid visa. I flew into Indonesia to Bali on 21st June last year and was not asked for an onward ticket but I had a return ticket for many months later.
I left the country twice and returned and was never asked to show my onward ticket, but one can be unlucky.
Send me a message and I can enlighten you with some ideas I will not post on a pubblic forum.

You will receive a 30 day visa on arrival visa when you arrive in Indonesia. Just remember that if you arrive at 11 pm that is still counted as 1 day so then you would have to leave on the 29th day. Be careful many people get confused by this.

If you wish to stay longer in Indonesia you will need to apply for a 60 day visa in your home country or one of the Asian countries like Singapore- have to go through agent, Kuala Lumpar, Bangkok.
Can PM all the details to you if you like. Best place to get 60 day visa is Penang- takes only one to apply and you pick up the next and you do it yourself so it is much cheaper.
I flew into Indonesia with a 60 day visa from Sydney Australia and then I got another 60 day visa in Singpore in Aug 2006 and another one in Penang in Oct 2006.
