Is it possible to only visit these two towns in one day and have an enjoyable experience?
We will be stopping in Livorno on a cruise ship and just have 10 hours to visit the area. Trying to decide how to divide our time. We have heard so many great reviews on Siena, but would like to add another stop if possible.

Stop in Pisa to see the tower since you are so close. However there is not a lot of other things to do there. Siena has a parade (reinactments) type stuff going on depending on when you are there. When you are going in kind of important to mention. Florence is close but hard to do in a short amount of time. I suggest hang out in 1 place and enjoy it.

From Livorno to Siena there are 2 hours and half by train. Siena it's not a big city, but there are so many things to see. San gimignano is connected only bus. I think you can take a train and stop (maybe) in Pisa, and spend 1 hour to see the leaning tower, then going directly to Siena, and spend there the rest of the time. You can't see everything, and you've to consider carefully the train schedule (and also consider a possible delay, which happens quite often).
the train line is : Livorno-Florence, you cross Pisa first, then to reach Siena you've to get off the train in Empoli station, and take the connection to Siena. Here you can see the train schedule:
enjoy your vacation! Laura

I think that San Gimignano will take 2 hrs max. You certainly must climb the big tower and enjoy the view. And eat an icecream in the best shop in town.
After SG it will cost about 1 hr to reach Siena.
If you want to really enjoy Siena, take a long walk and visit the beautiful squares and streets.
And perhaps a bit of a typical Italian dish on a nice terrace?
After that you have to travel back to Livorno in about 2.5 hrs.
Conslusion: SG plus Siena is possible but enough for this day!

Have a nice trip!
(What are the other harbours/trips? I can inform you about Sicily, Malta, Gozo too)
