I suppose I just want to know, why, if you find your job so boring you would not want to give it up. Seems to me, it could be a good way to save up some money to go traveling again, but I wouldn't worry too much about leaving it behind if you really don't enjoy it.

Life is too short to be spent being bored. Use the job to make some money, go traveling, experience life and then find a job that you enjoy.

I think you perfectly well know, that you want (or maybe need) to go back, but you like to have some conformation.

John7Buck is right, life is too short to spend in a boring office. You are young so go for it, there is time enough left when you're old and grey to be bored. And you know old people, they only tell stories about when they were young, so make sure you have some stories to tell when you are 80.

Make sure to get enough funds to get there, and maybe think about settling there?

Hey Noel-G, I'm about to find myself in your boat.
Have been travelling for nearly 5 years and will be getting back home to Oz in July. I'm 40 and I really can't see myself settling in to the whole, get a job, buy a house and be like everyone else thing.

I've decided to go for temp work for 6-8months and see if I can hack the routine of life. But I have only seen about 40% of the countries on this fair earth so I image there will be more travel in my future.

Really comes down to this:

Do you work to live or live to work?

Option A: toss your boring job once you have some savings and get out there!

Option B: Stay in your boring job, continually wishing you were some place else and being angry at yourself for not just throwing your hat in the ring.

Option A. Option A!!!!

I think your question comes down to this:

Is this job something you could obtain again (not the exact one but something equivalent) when you return from future travel?

If yes...then what's stopping you?

If no...then you should put in your time for a while and save up the funds for future travels after you do eventually quit.

Is it the security of having a permanent job that is making you reluctant to leave it? If it isn't satisfying you, don't live your life for it. Live your life for what you want, not what you feel you should have. On the other hand, jobs can be worth holding out on to save some cash, for example, or as a stop gap whilst you are deciding what you really want out of a job/career. You could look into doing some voluntary work abroad, or look into doing VSO? It may lead to something you enjoy much more and you still get to travel. I hope you feel a bit more clear about it soon. Maybe you will just wake up one day and everything will be clear. That is what happened to me when I decided to go travelling after 6 months of umming and arring.
