My partner and I are doing 10 weeks in europe, but we are thinking of starting in marrakach for a quick visit (2 days)then training it up to the coast and catching ferry to spain.

Is it woth it? or really need longer? How much will our trip north cost?(train to coast/ferry over,do we need to book this?)also wht is the name of the ports that the ferrys travel from?and are they worth a visit?(both sides)

Marrakech and indeed Morocco is well worth a visit, but the city is a long way from Spain. So you might want to give Morocco a week or three, as a separate trip on its own.

- Tangier is a big port city - it has some charms but most folk regard it as a place to pass through fairly quickly.
- Ceuta (spanish territory on the north african coast) is more civilised and smaller, but less well connected.
- On the European side - Algeciras is most definitely just a port, not a place to linger.

on the way to marrakech, heading south from tangiers:
- tetouan is pleasant enough, a small city
- fes and meknes are worth a few days each
- On the coast near(ish) to Morroco - I'd add Essouira to your itinerary

Hi Tim,

If you want to visit Morocco then may I recommend a tour company called Erlebnis Tours Maroc. Google them for their website address. I used them a couple of years ago and plan to use them again when I go back to Morocco next year. They are fabulous and do a wonderful tour to Marrakesh, either 1 day or 2 days with an overnight stop. Marrakesh is huge and bustling and it's easy to get lost, so a guide is highly advised.

Hope this helps!

2 days in marrakech and you go to spain by ferry.
from marrakech to tangier you take the train. it takes 10 hours. it slow sometimes but it s a nice train ask for 1rst class or couchette if you are going at night and you wanna sleep. In my opinion 2 days are not enough to experience Morocco because Marrakech is just a city of morocco so you need a stop in Essaouira which its a relaxing fishing town with history...its just 100 km from Marrakech. Fes is the third imperial city if you want to expereince the old medina with the indalusian houses and riads and various delicious food. yuou can take the train from marrakech to fes. And a stop in Asilah. you take the train from fes. And asilah is just 30 miles from tangier. you can take the train then to tangier. i prefer to have a break in asilah than tangier.
i hope its helpful
