Why not?
Just curious about, why u give that advise.

Its well known that the vendors drop their standards and up their prices on the tourist strip.

If you go 2 blocks away then the food gets better.

Thats true.

we have a small budget of $20NZ a day each.. about 700 thaiB or $14 USD. thanks fr all your help. it is greatly appreciated.

In Bangkok I would look into getting a place on Sukhumvit Road or the Siam area so that you can use the Skytrain.

In smaller towns 700 baht will buy you a little more than the big City. Pattaya is cheap for hotels, transportation and food. A 500 baht hotel in Pattaya would be at east 800 or 900 in Bangkok.

For Bangkok you can try these two places on the same soi:

President Inn, Sukhumvit Soi 11/1 (not far from Suk 11 Hostel)
No window rooms starts around 690 baht. This means a room that either has no view out the window or no window at all. Usually small but with hot water, air conditioning and use of a safe or use of a safety box.
Website is or direct booking requests by (email address removed - not allowed!)

Business Inn, first of the budget hotels you see from Sukhumvit Road (near Nana Skytrain stop) has 600 baht no window roooms. The cheapest rooms have no windows but do have air and hot water. Good travel agency for purchasing plane tickets. Web address is and for direct booking use this email address: (removed not allowed.) Of these two hotels the President Inn is nicer and they have both a massage salon and an internet shop.
