Star this if you like it!
I'll be traveling thru So. Thailand in mid-April, Bangkok to
Sungai Kolok, to cross over into Malaysia to Kota Bahru to
go onward to Gemas on the "Jungle Train". I note with some
concern an article on Fox News this AM about terrorists in
Southern Thailand: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258703,00.html
I have a request in for information from the American Citizens
Services section of the US Embassy, but would like to get
opinions from readers of this forum because I have received a
lot of very good help thru this forum.
I will be traveling with my wife and 13-year-old Granddaughter
and I don't wish to expose them to any dangers. Does anyone have
any information or advice for me on the situation in S. Thailand?
Thanks very much, Tom

Hello Agss
There is often some trouble, at the Malaysian border. But if u go there chances are u wont notice it. I was there, around 9 years ago.
But, I suppose it would be wise to heed all warnings, if u want to be completely safe. Keep an eye on the Thai news, when u are there.

Has anyone been in the area recently??
I'm also very concerned about all this - 2000 deaths since 2004!
Our last stop in Thailand is Krabi, where we then get the bus to Hat'yai where the bus was attacked apparently. We've to get the train from there to Singapore - if anyone has any alternative routes of getting from Krabi to Singapore could you tell us?
So that we don't get caught up in the flashpoint border area.

Wildfk: This is SO far off topic and I have no interest nor
intention of pursuing it further, but I feel I must respond
briefly.
The Fox News Channel is the ONLY reliable news source on TV
in the US, and their online news service is a direct link to
their cable channel news. Fox News Channel ratings outstrip
PMSNBC, CNN, and all 3 major networks COMBINED. Being
unreliable wouldn't get them there.
So, Sir, as O'Reilly would say, somebody pass this gent a cup
of Kool-Aid.
Both your post and this response should be removed from this
forum.

On advice from the American Citizens Service at the US Embassy
in Bangkok, we are going to forego this leg of our trip.
Lufthansa operates a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok
at a fairly reasonable price.
Since I will have my wife and Granddaughter with me, I think it
prudent to stay away from any unnecessary risks. I hate to do
that, it means, in a sense, they (terrorists) have won a round,
but my main interest is the safety of my favorite ladies.

Spot the feckwit!
It is important to get GOOD and reliable advice before you travel...Fox does none of this.
any other source of info will be better than listening to their drivel.

He won't be missed.
It's a wonder he ever ventures out of the front door, but then if you believe in Fox you probably believe the "sky" is falling....

Yeah, safety first.
Nothing is worth putting your family at risk for.
I am also very careful, especially when I travel with my daughter.
