Hi, all,

I'm planning to travel USA as a first country of my RTW.

Currently i'm checking rent car but it seems expensive fo me.

So i'd like to know how can i buy a car with my travel visa.
(I found some informations about insurance, but i really do not know
how to register the car)

I'll start my travel from LA.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Junghyun, from Korea.

Why don't you try a "Driveaway" ?
I've never done it myself, but I know it's a common thing, as one of our travel programs covered it recently.
Basically, someone who orders a new car from hundreds of miles away, needs it delivering, and to avoid a large fee, the dealer lets someone like you drive it across the country for free - you just pay for the fuel (or not, sometimes).
You are restricted to a maximum time and mileage, but it gets you where you want to go very cheaply.
Look it up. I'm sure there will be plenty who've done it.

If you actually just want to buy a car I'd suggest buying from an individual... dealerships are expensive and require more paperwork, etc.

Maybe take a look at losangeles.craigslist.org, Craigslist is a great resource for getting stuff cheaply in the US. Otherwise all newspapers have a classified section that will list cars for sale and there are a number of websites (like carsoup.com) that sell cars.

In terms of registration... buy a car that has current registration and then don't worry about the title (not sure of the legality of this, but the reality is nobody will check, especially if you resell to another person.) If for some reason your registration is old you need to talk to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) about getting it renewed, but you're probably better off just getting one that has been renewed recently.

Finally, do make sure to get car insurance... it's illegal not to have it and you could get in a fair amount of trouble if you get pulled over without it.
