My girlfriend and I will be travelling up from Singapore around New Year and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a quiet island to relax for a couple of weeks before heading north?

My research so far has thrown up maybe Ko Lipe in the Ko Turatao park, but I'd appreciate any other advice.

I just post at another thread. You might want to check it out.

But here's what I would recommend to you.

The Racha island off Phuket.

Racha island is a tranquil, tiny private island 12 miles off Phuket with the most beautiful water you'll never forget in this life. The island is stunning with white sandy beach and cozy and romantic resort design. If you want a true getaway, away to the paradise, away from it all, this is definitely your answered prayer.

I think you should browse photos and information of all hotels anywhere in Thailand here at And you can just book online with special discounts.

Hmmm, Ko Racha - a bit of a disaster area in my opinion!

Other options you may may want to consider is Ko Yao Noi in the northern part of the Gulf of Phuket. Is doesn't have the brilliant white sand beaches, but its a very quiet, conservative and laid back area. Its most easily reached by boat from Phuket. There's around half a dozen bungalow ops on the island.

But if you're going to Lipe, there's some other options in the area - Ko Muk, Ko Sukorn, Ko Libong and Ko Bulon all have budget accommodation and none of them are nearly as busy as Lipe has become.

Hope that helps

I'm currently on Koh Phi Phi. I was only supposed to be here for a day and its now been over a week. The beaches and water are so perfect they look fake. Amazing sunsets and a great island night life with lots of dancing and fireshows held nightly. I'm sharing a room with a nice South African girl for a 200 baht a night for both of us. Lots of cafes with reasonable prices for food and drink. Great diving and boat tours too. Definitely worth checking out. I'll come back here again.

Safe Travels,
