What sort of holiday do you prefer?
A holiday abroad in a hotel where everyone speaks your native tongue. You eat the food your normally eat, you sit by the pool and turn a lovely tanned colour and at the end of the week everything has gone smoothly and you fly back home first class.
OR
A week in a leaky tent half way up a beautiful mountain with foot cooked on an open fire with the odd bit of twig added, you spend all day hiking through mud and return home thoroughly exhausted with all your possesions soaking wet and muddy.

Neither of those - but more of
A nice hotel somewhere where l can get out and explore see the local culture, see the sites and sounds of the area, sample local cuisine, do a bit of shopping maybe spend a day in the nice hotel (which would have a wonderful spa) lazing about, being able to go to the beach do a bit of snorkelling and then fly business (lm not that greed to want first!!!!!!) home too! But definately no leaky tents!

I like the idea of the second one more than the first! But the first is nice sometimes

Why did the tent have to be leaky ???
and you forgot about the pain in my back for the next week, and the lack of sleep. The hayfever, that keeps me sneazing, all the time. Yes ... camping sucks big time, but it would still be more attractive then the horror of the hotel, and being surrounded by Dutch people for a week.
Can't I just get a bed in a cabin, in the mountains? (there are plenty!)

I'd definitely rather be in the tent. I'd find a way to mend the tear somehow. I've done my share of camping and when water gets in a tent it's not any fun at all.

I have slept in my fair share of old tents that leaked but some friends of mine had it a lot worse when in South America.
They pitched theur tent across an animal track. Over night it rained really heavy and the track turned into a stream. They had 3 inches of water running through their tent in the morning.

Neither. I would hike for a week, explore the country's most beautiful sites and sleep in hostels where I can meet people from all over the world.

I agree with Rene - why does the tent have to be leaky and (out of my own curiosity) why would I cook a foot?
I have to choose both because it's a mood thing. Sometimes the hotel and pool is a wonderful thing, even if everyone speaks my language and it's the same food I always eat. (The way I cook - it would make for interesting cuisine.) But, the camping is fun too, even with the leaky tent and most of ours have been leaky at one time or another. The current one is leak-free - so far... Besides, mud is good for the complexion.
