hey all,

any recommendations on where to surf in oz between the months of may and september?
would prefer a place where the sun is shining, as nsw and victoria are getting pretty dismal.:(
whats the situation over in the west, and does queensland get much surf?

many thanks,

can't speak for the west, but most of north queensland isn't great for surfing, the reef makes it pretty calm most of the time. There were a few beaches north of cairns that have a few small waves on occasion, but kite surfing was about all anyone was doing.
Maybe along the gold coast?

jus came back from a month in OZ.....the more northern u go, the warmer of course....definitely try to chk out central coast...and more so, further north...i loved crescent head (longboard capital of australia)....also, coolangatta in the gold coast. snapper's rock is like a shortboarders dream....constant waves, like a wave machine.

surfers paradise, is more like "tourist paradise" its like the waikiki of australia w/out as good of surf.

if u can make it down south, bells beach is awesome...haven't been to perth, but hear they got good waves there near margarets river.

You might want to PM James - he's in Sydney and based on forum threads like this one might just be able to tell you where the good waves are at....

Not sure about Broome, but the WA coast is exc for surfing in winter. The best time is just after a North West storm, where it washes the beach up a little and makes for good surf in the days following. Check out oceanoutlook.com.au

Water temps only change 1-2* degrees C between winter and summer....so depends on how keen you are...never bothered me.

Best spots Perth Trigg, Scarborough
South Margaret River area

If you wan't warm weather and surf I'm on the Sunshine Coast right now. Surf's been inconsistent the last 6 weeks, there's better spots further south (like the Goldie) but the weather's generally good.

Peace, T.
