hey andy,

just stay in downtown Cairo. the most budgethotels are available there. the pyramids are situated in Giza, which is part of Cairo. It takes approximately 20-40 minutes (depending on traffic congestion) to reach the pyramids. if u bargain hard the fare should be around 20 LE (for the taxi, one way).

Cairo itself is even better then the pyramids, so get enough time to explore Cairo as well.

Cheers and have fun;)

Try the ismailia house hotel at the Tahrir square (mosrt central square of Cairo). its on the 8th floor and some rooms have fantastic views with balcony (room 805 is recommendable). a double room is about 60LE per night. there are dozens of other options for around this price (50-100LE in general). Cheers

it depends on how much time you have. the train will take u in approximately 13 hours from Cairo to Luxor.

I should buy a travelguide if I were you (like the lonely planet (budget) guidebook of Egypt, its all in there). there are sleepertrains going for USD50,- (per person in double cabin). Normal trains to Luxor are cheaper, namely 65LE (around USD10,-) for first class. I said it was 13 hours to Luxor but I was wrong, it is 10 hours.

Dear Wouterrr,

After your good revieuw I have booked room 805 at the Ismailia House Hotel at the Tahrir square. Really looking forward to go to Egypt.

On a friday evening I will fly at 20:45 from Amsterdam, Netherlands and arrive at (saturday morning) 02:00 at Cairo, Egypt. Can you please inform me what the best way is to get from Cairo Airport to Tahrir Square ? How long does it take to get from the Airport to the Hotel ??
