Cheers buddy.. just out of interest what was your itinery?

I travelled the north. Cairo, then Sinai (Dahab, mount Sinai and shamed to say Sharm-el-sheik which is an awful touristic place) back to Cairo and the Oasis of Siwa in the western desert. egypt is nice but beware of touts and ripp-offs. enjoy the sheesha, smoke it while watching the crowds go by in Cairo.

Quoting BjornParee

On a friday evening I will fly at 20:45 from Amsterdam, Netherlands and arrive at (saturday morning) 02:00 at Cairo, Egypt. Can you please inform me what the best way is to get from Cairo Airport to Tahrir Square ? How long does it take to get from the Airport to the Hotel ??

u need to take the shuttlebus to the car park first. ignore the taxidrivers at the arrivals hall and take the shuttlebus immidiately. from the car park you should be able to get a taxi but fare will be higher at night (expect not lower then LE50,- for 20 minute drive to the Tahrir square (which every driver knows to find)). 30 LE is the normal price but at the airport u need to bargain very hard to get on that price. try different drivers. there is also a 24/7 busservice (ask around where that is, don't ask a taxidriver though;)). this bus is only 0,5 LE (0,07 euro). it stops behind the egyptian museum in downtown. from there it is a short walk to the tahrir square. Cairo never sleeps so ask for directions from there. have fun.

hey there! for cairo i just recommend to stay in the downtown area, use the metro to move around, its easy and so much cheaper than a taxi. to get to the pyramids save yourself the hassel for a cheap fare for a taxi, go right to the bus station and ask for the line that takes you to the el giza it will only cost you 50 plasters and the bus is really nice. oh also dont fall for the locals telling you they will take you to a government office that will show you everything so much cheaper, thats just another hassel, go straight to the ticket office.
Other tips: get an isic card, it will save you a lot of money on practically everything.
in luxor stay at the oasis hotel (not nubian oasis, just oasis) cheapest and nicest place ever.
in cairo go to the cammell market, its only on fridays though so plan it ahead.
hope this was usefull! byee

hey!
well I was just there a few weeks ago and it was pretty nice! For the the bodyguard thing, I didn't see anything like this, at the most you see a lot of soldiers with their guns and stuff, but I guees thats just for safety. I found Egypt really safe, no problem with that. Not to offend anyone, but practically everyone that comes up to you saying that they want to help is working a hassel, so just be carefull who you trust.
In luxor its pretty easy to get around, if you want to go to the valley of the kings you can ask at your hotel and they can book you the tour, but if you're like me and don't like the tour thing, you can ride a bike there or I think theres a city bus that will take you as well. And I trully recomend the oasis hotel, really good place.
If you have time, from luxor you can catch a train to aswan and then go to abusimbel, very nice!
If you have any more questions, be glad to help.
see you!

Hello! well I was there for only two weeks, I started out in luxor, then went down to aswan and abusimbel, ended up in cairo. If you have time to go diving, ask for the nonturisitic place, cant remember the name but I heard it was great! Hope you have an awesome time! see you!

You can catch a night train from Cairo to Aswan and go to Abu Simbel it´s a breath taking site. From Aswan take a felluca to Luxor it takes three days at least. Felluca are a good budget way to do a cruise on the Nile. You can have a swim in the Nile for the shower and sleep underneath the stars. One of the best part of the trip.

hey andyroo
as already suggested to you by someone dahab is the best place i believe in the sinai coz its dirt cheap and still relatively uncommercialised. you can rent a rooom at say bishibishi or lots of other resthouses on the main road in dahab for as little as 20 LE. then u can go to blue hole an amazing place for scuba and snorkelin. besides you can also go to MT Sinai from here at just under 50 LE. and then for the night just hang out at TOTA this is a BAR absolutely free for foreigners and then bet of them.
i think these would help.
besides if you are stayin for more than 5 days in CAIRO i sugggest you buy your stuff from SAUDI supermarket the rates over there are like what you would find in a walmart and you go there by a metro.
i toured egypt last yr and its a hell of a place
for places you could also go to Canadian hostel near Tahrir. tahrir is the best place to be coz its kinda the centre and easy to go to other places. you should also visit the old cairo and then they have a park over there i forgot the name but its pretty good the sights if you view if you go there in the evening and stay till 7ish
