Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend a good compact digital camera for pictures along with a camcorder for taking video diaries/film footage. It will be to cover a RTW trip covering: -

USA, FIJI, New Zealand, Austrailia, Thailanf/Laos and India. Cheers:)

I've used Canon Power Shot Series for my RTW trip. It seems to serve the purpose. Depending on your budget - there are a lot of good cameras out there in the market.

One piece of advice though - make sure you make back ups of your photos after each continent/country.

I love Canon Powershots, the digital elphs do a great job (ixus in countries outside of the us, I believe). For a camcorder, I've found that sony makes pretty good ones pretty small. The HC models (HC 28, 38, 48) are great, the updated version of my good old HC40. Very compact, great features, very easy to use and transfer to computer. Just don't use any sony software. The important thing is that it's so small and has so many features (especially the 38 and 48 models).

I recently purchased a Canon Powershot 800 IS. Bought it because it has wide lens. Great for group pictures and landscape, scenary pictures. I got great shots of myself in front of parliament building as I was able to the building in one frame

If you can survive something bigger than the compacts, though smaller than an SLR - try the Nikon Coolpix series. Great cameras, with more possibilities than the really compact ones...

Canon Powershot series.
for a trip like that, might be a good idea to carry a "slightly bigger" one like the powershot, instead of the elph. or any "ULTRA compact" one.
