Hi All

:)This looks like a really cool Travel Community!

I'm sorry I didn't find it last year, before I picked travelpod, which is predominantly a Canadian/American animal... (no offense implied, I just wanted a bigger, more experienced and open minded audience)

I am a South African, 32 year old single male and travel addict!

The bug has bitten me again, and I can't get enough, so I've taken down my (well used) Michelin 953 from the wall, and replaced it with the Michelin 902 - Le Monde.

I recently did a quick trip through 10 African Countries, in as many weeks, and have just finished writing the book...

It's called:
Manic Mission: One Man's Shoestring Scramble through Ten African Countries

So my itchy feet wanna get moving again, and I'm right into the thick of planning. My mathematical mind races ahead of me and I'm planning until 2am every day! It's now 04:00, the rain here in Cape Town is coming down like nobody's business, and I'm still not tired!

These are the 52 Countries (in 52 weeks) I'm gonna see very soon.

So I start and finish in Cape Town and am still working on how to get to Brazil (maybe Cape to Rio Yacht Race), maybe stowaway on a container ship, maybe win the lotto and buy a first class RTW ticket!
I am gonna do this one with my backpack and tent, and only on public transport, hitch hiking, bicycle, walking and crawling (when it comes down to that).
Thrifty is the word - $20 per day MAX, that's hopefully gonna be under US$ 7,000.
As for the rest, I'd like to be around for Carnival in Latin America, spring time in Alaska, and avoid general bad weather or natural disaster periods on my route. If any of you can shed some light as to which of the countries below I should avoid in a particular month, I would be eternally grateful.

South America (7)
January: Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina
February: Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia

Central America (5)
March: Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala

North America (3)
April: Mexico, United States of America, Canada

Far East Asia (8)
May: Russia, Japan, South Korea, China
June: Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand

South Asia (5)
July: Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iran

Europe (3)
August: Turkey, Greece, Italy

North Africa (5)
September: Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal,

West Africa (11)
October: The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Côte D’Ivoire, Ghana
November: Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon

Southern Africa (5)
December: Congo, DRC, Angola, Namibia, South Africa

I'm really lucky because I work in a major book store with 25 branches, so I can get any travel book I want, at discount prices, or just to browse through.

I have had my travel blog on since November 2006.

I have just spent 7 hours laboriously copying it over to TP.

My ManicMissions blog is now complete, with the exception of pictures. I have thousands and it's just gonna take too long and too much bandwidth to upload them. Also, I'm only allowed 25MB per month.....

I think that's probably enough of an introduction.

Thanks for listening/reading

Hi Dave.

We welcome travelpod refugees with open arms ;) Shame about the photos - one small tip, it is actually possible to insert photos from another site into your blog. More on that here.

Hi Dave,

Just read your plans and I feel tired just looking at them!

I'm finding it hard to figure out a route for 4/5 countries for 3 months!! You'll be more than at home here at TP -

Hi Dave, welcome to TP!

That is the most amazing trip you are going to make. Sometimes I dream away visiting all 50 states of the US in one year, but you are going to visit more countries in that amount of time.

Just out of curiousity: have you booked at least af few tickets etc. already or will you just see what happens? Especially between the continents that is.
Drop me a PM if you want.

Cheers and have fun! Michael
