Hello people,

Need some help with choosing some accomodation for staying in Quito could anyone recommend anywhere, we are only there for 6 nights, so going to try and squeeze a lot in any help welcome. I´ve heard that it is a pretty dodgy place to be at night too is this true?

thanks in advance for your help

Quito has two parts; the upper part can be dodgy at night, the lower part isn't, but you should stay on main streets nevertheless, esp. if you don't speak any spanish or if you have a decidedly 'western' appearance.

As to lodging, there is a kiwi-run hostel in the lower part of town that I really liked; I think it's originally called 'mitad del mundo', but I'm not sure. It's in the Footprint guidebook, one of the cheaper ones.

We are currently in the chicago hostel in bricino, its half way between new and old towns. Love it here, quito is such a beautiful city. The hostel is probably the cleanest i´ve ever stayed in, gets a little noisy around 8 when breakfast is served, but it saves taking an alarm clock :)
think dorms are around $7 inc breakfast. We in a double for $12.

Oh, as for safety, we just came up from lima, and feel much safer here, you can walk around in SOME areas at night, up till 9ish maybe, there are lots of people out on the streets talking to each other. Have been here over a week, and not felt threatened at all, very freindly folks!
