I plan to travel to Combodia in the next few days and i read in the lonely planet (2005) that there is no ATMs. Is this true? has any one been to seim reap in the last few months? Is there any ATMs there?

Was in Siem Reap about 2 months ago and there were plenty ATM's.

Maybe should suggest to Lonely Planet that they update their info, eh?!

When you withdraw funds - using most UK/Irish bank cards - your cash is dispensed in USD (United States Dollars).

Good if you operate your bank account in Euro's, fabulous if you operate in Pounds.

There are plenty of ATMs in both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, not sure about elsewhere in cambodia though.

If you are flying in to Phnom Penh, I know it had an ATM there (it dispensed $US), but I did see others around town in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

There are also ATM's in Sihanoukville now. The best ATM's to use are operated by ANZRoyal Bank. Cirrus and Maestro cards are accepted. Maximum withdrawal per day is US $ 2000 - enough for most backpackers to eat well!!. I would also advise you to change your pin number to a 4 digit one before you go. I was advised to do so and encountered no problems. Six digit pins could possibly cause trouble.
ATMs at ANZ bank machines are usually located in a galsses in foyer and usually have armed guards outside for extra protection.
