Anyone planning to be in New Zealand around the month of August let me know. We can start a forum here and hopefully help others out, or maybe meet up and travel together.

I fly into Auckland on August 19th...adventure starts there.

Im not going back to NZ just yet, but I can recommend that you get a hostel in the Portland road area of Auckland, it has fantastic views over the city and great bus links, or stay in hostels in Mt Eden area...the inner city ones are noisy and cold and mouldy in places.

There is a hostel scheme in NZ for backpackers, which is worth signing up for (im trying to rack my brains to remember...something like the BB hostel card) anyway it gets you discounts and most hostels have a freephone number which you can ring ahead a book accommodation...

I was in NZ for two months, and wish I was there for longer as there is sooooo much to see and do. Its brilliant and if you go on one of the coaches around the island you will meet so many other backpackers and make many friends along the way. (I went Magic, as it worked out the best deal for me at the time)

Clanger-thanks for your recommendations, I will keep those areas in mind when I'm in Auckland. Also, I have looked into the BBH card and likely will sign up. They also proide some great job postings..such as working for your room and board. Any spots that you would consider "must do"? Also, any contacts you still have down there? Shoot me an email.

Carol-guess I forgot to let everyone know how long I'll be in NZ. I have a Working Holiday Visa which is good for a year, likely planning to stay the full time. Planning to travel all over the country and work along the way. Let's meet up...let me know when ou arrive in Auckland.
