hey ya'll, three of us Malaysian girls are heading across the border to Bangkok for 5 days. Short as that may be, we're pretty determined to see/do as much as possible. We're spending 2 days at the New Joe Guesthouse on Khao San Road and the rest of the time at Big John's in Sukhumvit.

What can we do while in Khao San? I hear it's pretty far from all the main action, so is there much to do there? Would it be wise to travel to Ayuthaya from Khao San? Also, which bars would you guys recommend?

Same goes for Sukhumvit, would appreciate info on which are the best markets and malls to hit up? We're planning to shop a whole lot...;)

As far as clubbing, we're pretty much into the whole backpacker scene (and by scene, I'm referring to the guys, LOL) so we would prefer clubs that cater more to an expat/tourist crowd. Ooooh, and we were thinking of hitting up some go-go bars or even a 'tiger show' (just so we can say we did..haha)...any suggestions?

p/s: anyone who'll be in bangkok anytime from the 28th June- 2nd July, fell free to drop me a line, and we can hang out!

Cheers!

hi ashanya,
you can do a lot of things in Khaosan Rd. At night, you can just hang out at 1 of the bars there to enjoy the beer and make friends with other backpackers. You will be shocked when you are at Khaosan Rd because you will see more Farangs than the local Thai.

Khaosan is a little bit far from the main actions. But you can just take a Tuk Tuk or Taxi to the nearest Skytrain Station such as Ratchatewi to connect to other areas.

For shopping,i will suggest you Chatuchak Weekend Market. Just open on weekends. You can get there by Skytrain (Mochit Station). or just share a tuk tuk or taxi with your friends.

In Sukhumwit, you can go to Suan Lum night Baazar. You will never finish walking at those 2 places. For shopping malls, you can go to Siam Paragon,Siam Center and Siam Discovery. They are just next to each other. You guys can be there by skytrain as well. (Siam Station).

There's other mall which is call MBK. Its more like Sungai Wang in KL.
Just get off at National Stadium Skytrain. It is more convinient to travel by skytrain rather than taxi or tuk tuk around that area since there will be a terrible traffic jam.

Incase you want to get back to Khaosan at peak hours, stop at Victory Monument Station and take taxi or tuk tuk back to Khaosan. Save more time from traffic jam.

For clubs,i will suggest you to go to RCA Club. Clean. Or you want to join Farangs, just go to Patpong. Maybe you will enjoy it there.

enjoy your trip mate!!!;)

should stay closer to town center. saves time, and money. (bkk traffic arg) sky train closes at midnight. thong lor is not walking distance to anywhere.

Big Johns is a taxi or sky train ride from any night life.

If you want lots of drunk expats then head for the Londoner at the top of Sukhumvit Soi 33 on a wednesday night. Buy one get one free on lots of drinks. Otherwise join the masses down KSR or Patpong. Q bar is good for an expensive boogie.

Gullivers down Sukh soi 5 is ok too.

If you want shopping try the Platinum shopping mall, slightly cheaper than MBK.

Well, things in Platinum are not as many as in MBK.
And almost all things in Platinum are the same. In MBK,you can find lots of things. Can simply choose. Variety!!

That's awesome advice, guys...thanks!

any more club/bar advice? we'd prefer not to make the mistake of paying cover for an expensive club and then find out later the drinks are watered down and the music/crowd suck!

hi ashanya!

i was just in Thailand a few weeks ago. i was there in May 20 to May 24 and we managed to even visit Koh Chang that's 5 hours from Bangkok by bus.

for shopping don't miss the chatuchak weekend market! the platinum mall and the pratunam market are good too!

with clubbing i can't help you with that. i've always thought patpong is what you would call a red-light district. hihi! i could be wrong.
