Hi,
Has anyone experience of taking a ferry in the Inland sea? I am going from Beppu to Kansai (osaka, kobe,..) and thought the price for ferries was cheap compared to trains (I do not have a railway pass...). My concerns are, exactly how crowded is 2nd class, since it is dark most of the time does it get boring, ie no view?
Thanks!!

Hi,
I have been looking at ferry trips through the Inland Sea for my September holiday, and this site has a boat from Oita departing 7:50 and arriving at Kobe 12:10. A full daylight sail should give you lots to see. Oita is a short train ride from Beppu (1 hr max I think?)

Thanks for the response. It turned out that I went on the overnight ferry from Beppu (7pm) to Osaka (6.30am). 2nd class was not much space but I was fortunate and had no one beside me. Went up at 5am and got to see a little bit of the inland sea. However, it is the rainy season now and the weather was not so good. The trip was nice anyway, with lots of people to talk to including crazy truck drivers......
