I have a few questions for anyone who is currently teaching English in China or has in the past. I am currently an English teacher in China and I am new to the rules and regulations for foreign teachers here. I am fully aware of the fact that I must abide by all the same laws as any other resident in China. What I’m confused about is the rules my employer has placed on me. I am not to have anyone over to my house at any time and I must be home by 10:30 every night. I know that they are responsible for my well being but I am an adult and I am certainly capable of making those decisions on my own. My employer says that if I violate these rules that not only will I jeopardise my job but I would also get them into trouble with the Chinese Education Bureau. I will be here for a year so I would like to know the ends and outs. Does anyone know if these rules are set in stone or are they flexible or is it up to the school to decide? I have looked all over the web and e-mailed my embassy with no avail. Any info will help. Thanks, Andy :)

Absolute rubbish,

By the way as it's so easy to get a job teaching anywhere in China, if I were you I would quit and work somewhere else.

Just look on Daves and change jobs.

They can rearrange your visa etc.

In order to manage the student strictly and keep them safe, many school has strict door rules. If you don't like that kind of life, you can refuse to live in the room provided by school and rent a house by yourself outside the school. Just make sure that everyday you to work on time. That will be no problem. Then you can do whatever you want. Nowaday few employer arrange accomadation for employee. From another side, their intention is good. But if you know like the time being control, just say "No, thanks!" and find your own place to stay. If the school not allow, just say bye and find another better job. To be an english teacher in China just piece of cake. But I hope u r the good one.
