Ooooo 7 weeks in South East Asia..... how lovely!

I have not long returned from 6 months of travelling, of which I spent about 3.5 months in South east Asia.

In my time I visited Thailand for two weeks, Laos for 2 weeks, Vietnam for a month, Cambodia for a week, back into Thailand for five weeks, Malaysia for two weeks and then Singapore for a few days.

I did all of this mainly overland (excpet for the odd cheeky flight!) and I think that in 7 weeks you will be able to cover quite a few countries.

I must say that I enjoyed it all, but to me Vietnam is a must (you could travel from one end of the county to the other in 2-3 weeks, although this might be at quite a fast pace).....

If you want me to answer any more questions I would be happy to. Do you have any ideas about where you might like to go?

Lucy ;0)

You are going at a good time for most of south east Asia in terms of the weather, although it is high season in terms of tourist numbers and prices. I spent 3 months in SE Asia and for the time you have, I would probably recommend 2 weeks Thailand, 1 week Laos, 3 weeks Vietnam and 1 week Cambodia. It would be a bit of a rush and you'll need to plan quite carefully but you should be able to do it. Air Asia now offer budget flights across much of the region which will obviously cut your journey time down, and within Vietnam you may want to fly certain legs where there is not much to see, such as Danang to Nah Trang. You can also get a night train between Hanoi and hue as there is not much to see on this stretch. In terms of the route, if you are starting in Thailand you could then work your way up the country and cross over to Laos via the Chiang Khong/Huay Xai border crossing in the golden triangle, spend 2 days on the slow boat down the Mekong, (a great experience) a couple of days in Luang prabang, Vang Vieng for some river tubing if you have time then on to Vientiane to get your flight to Hanoi. After working your way down Vietnam you can get a bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnon Penh and after visiting the sights there for a couple of days, go on toe Siem Reap and Angkor by bus , then either fly or get the bus to wherever you are flying out of. let me know if you want any more tips/info, and have a great time!
