2 hours South of Cairns is a great place called Mission Beach. From there you can organise trips out to the reef, dive, skydive and raft on the Tully river. Depending on the weather however as North can be wet at that time of year.

im planning the same trip.I will start in Darwin, in September. i want to buy Greyhound kilometer's pass fo around 15000. i hope it enought. so, ill take a bus to Alice Spring and when i get there, i will rent a car or buy a tour or something to Uluru. form Alice Spring i'll take a bus to Carnis. and then all the way by bus (hop in-off) to Melbourne. i will finish my trip on the beginning of december.
also today i got some link for a friend. i am considering this option too.http://www.wickedcampers.com.au/
if someone could give me some advieces, about some good hostels to stay, or what to see, where to go, i would be very thankful.

You won't be able to get a train to Kakadu. Try Jetstar or Virgin Blue for a cheap flight to Darwin.

Me mate recenty told me she's working on Hinchinbrook Island!! Bonus or what?! Gonna go bum it there for a few days, there'll only be three ferrys a week so no rush ;)

What do you guys reckons better?

East coast, Brisbane etc and miss Uluru and seeing all that vast emptiness
From Cairns - desert Venturer to Uluru then over to Adelaide to see my cuz, i'd then meet me mate in Melbourne and fly from Sydney.

Not sure, such a tough choice to miss Uluru.

Only got 2 months for this trip, gonna unfortunatly have to go by air alot :(
