The Under 20 World Cup of soccer/football/futbol/etc. is currently underway in Canada. The following countries are represented:
Africa
Asia
- Jordan
- Korea DPR
- Korea Republic
Europe
- Czech Republic
- Poland
- Portugal
- Scotland
- Spain
Northern and Central America
- Costa Rica
- Mexico
- Panama
- USA
Oceania
Southern America
Canada is off to a shaky start, losing 0-3 to Chile on Canada Day. Poland pulled out a shocker, beating Brazil 1-0. The other heavy favorite, Argentina could only manage a scoreless draw against the Czechs. Gambia, who has done well in the U-17, couldn't manage a goal and lost 3 - 0 to Mexico yesterday.
Anyway, if you are in Canada and would like to catch a game, 6 cities are hosting games over the next few weeks: Victoria, Burnaby (BC), Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.
I'm going to go and see if I can pick up some tickets for one of the games this weekend - perhaps the sunday night tilt between Chile and Austria, though Thursday nights Mexico - Portugal match should be good - especially the the large Portuguese immigrant population in Toronto.
Cheers!
Greg

I've been watching quite a few of the games, and there are some interesting looking players out there, although thus far, defence has generally been pathetic...

Erm. They aren't- Spain are the reigning champions. The Dutch (after checking) came bottom of their group in first round qualifying. They didn't even make it to the qualifying round before the 8team finals...

Erm... No they didn't. You've got your age groups confused. This is U20, not the U21s who are up to 3years older [no, that's no a misprint. The oldest possible person here is 20.5, teh oldest possible in the U21s was 23.something]
The following countries are represented:
Erm, do you not like the Canadians, Austrians, Congolese, Argentinians or Japanese who are also playing....?

Hmm, strange. I think when transfering the list from the text list I had to the list in TP, I must have deleted some lines. Yes, they are also playing, and obviously I have a soft spot for the Canadians, given they are me and I am them and we are us and we are all together... (or something like that).
