Hi All
Going to New Zealand on the 22 Aug. Staying for 3 weeks. Will be primarily staying in Auckland... But will hopefully travel with a Wicked Van, unless there is a cheaper way of getting around?:)
Where are some pretty places to see? and fun things to do. Hopefully will do the zorb.
Love to go on a horse ride, they are all so expensive though! If anyone can recommend anything please do!!
Thanks.
Jessie

With 3 weeks in NZ you should really go all around the place. There'll be plenty of skiing around the place since it's so freezing. There's a lot of cheap flights as well going on at the moment. You'll need to go to the air NZ site.

August will be cold so take lots of warm clothes!

If you want to go horse riding, try googling it. I'm sure there'll be some cheap places where you can ride horses.

Have fun!

if i were you id get the hell out of auckland as soon as possible. its just another big city, a nice one, but still theres so much more to see throughout the country and three weeks is a decent amount of time to do it in.

Make sure you go to the sounth Island and see the Queenstown area, it is absolutely beautiful. google queenstown images ull see what i mean. if ure up for adventure there are plenty of bungee jumps here, including the orginal one. Definatly take the Gondola up to the mountain in Queensown as wel, the view is amazing and you get to 'Luge'' down the mountan. Luging was AMAZING loved it! (again, google)

If ure interested in Wildlife, on the South Island on the east coast you can go and see the wld penguins coming in at night to nest. It was amazing to see, just loads of them waddling up the cliff from the sea. This is in a place called Oamaru.

North Island wise, the bay of Islands were really really pretty (just north of Auckland) and they get a lot of dolphins round the area. I went on a dolphin viewing tour and i ended up getting into a wetsuit and jumping in and swimming with a whole pod of wild dolhins which i thought was pretty cool! if ure interested i can tell u the name of the tour (i keep all the leaflets of all toury thigs i do).

Also on the North island, Rotorua to see the Geyzers, if u do go to Rotorua check out the lake it was stunning. If you get a wicked campervan then i take it ull be staying in campsites. We stayed in one right on the lake and parked on the edge and waking up by it was so cool. this campsite had canoes as well which u cud use to go out on the lake on for no extra charge.

Anyway..........Enjoy New Zealand

I was going to suggest Black Water Rafting, but perhaps it may be too cold for that. The wetsuit may do the trick, though.

If you are interested in the Lord of the Rings - there are plenty of tours taking you to LOTR sites. You can also visit Hobitton (The Shire) which might be fun if as l say you enjoy that sort of things. It might be something to do if the weather is too cold!

I wouldn't be upset about staying in Auckland there are places to see that are just as beauitiful as the rest of the country... Waiheke Island is a great place to visit esp if you're into a bit of wine tasting and I've been horse riding along the beach there too. Tiritirimatangi Island is a bird scantuary, you can take day trips from downtown Auckland to see many bird species that are extinct on the mainland. Also definitely head to one of the west coast beaches such as Piha or Karekare and take a walk to the waterfalls (even in winter).

'Hobbiton' is in Matamata and I personally wouldn't bother going unless you're passing through, I've heard it's just a farm with a hole in the ground.

I would also recommend the Bay of Islands for the dolphins and if you're into fishing it can be quite good around Russel as well.

I totally disagree. I was very hesitant about the $50 tour before going on it, thinking it'd never be worth it, but the scenery really is perfect there. That farm is the Shire, with endless gorgeous rolling green hills, and the hobbit holes all pretty and white set in the hills, plus the Party Tree and the lake...
It's gimicky perhaps, but it's also a unique location which you'd otherwise never get to see. Matamata itself is nothing to write home about, but once you're 15 minutes out and entering the farm property, you're right there at the one location that was chosen above all others to be the Shire.

Still thinking about Hobbiton
