Any advice on the better place to stay for 4 nights!!! We are planning to use the place as a base for our trips to Amalfi, Pompeii and the Isle of Capri. Any other places worth visiting while in the area? Many thanks.

Hello Amenz:)

Choose Sorrento. U would have more peace of mind there.
Naples is rough, crime ridden and dilapadated.
I was there, a couple of months ago. I did enjoy it, but at the same time, had an uneasy feeling. It would not be safe, to wander around Naples at night. Even during the day, one has to be very vigilant.

Hasn't this question come up recently?

Anyway, as you're from Australia it's like comparing Kings Cross in Sydney to Noosa Heads in Queensland. They are both extremely differenct from each other, but Capri is equally accessible from either place. As Mel said, Sorrento over Naples anyday.

I can recommend staying in Pompeii. You can easily reach Naples, Sorrento, Capri and the Amalfi coast from Pompeii with public transport. Camping Spartacus in Pompeii is the cheapest accomodation option in the whole area, call them and book their bungalow - it is very good value for money. If they are booked, look into Camping Pompeii .

Via Plinio, 127 - 80045, Pompei (NA) Tel. +39 081 8624078 Fax +39 081 8624078 Internet e-mail: spartacus(at) ...

It might also make sense to split up your stay - say 2 days in Pompeii, 2 days on the Amalfi coast and 3 days on Capri. (Less time used up travelling to/from your hostel/hotel this way.)
