Hi,

A question for those who've travelled in Eastern Europe.

If you had to choose from the list below, which four countries would you travel to and why?

Albania
Bosnia-Hercegovina
Croatia
Serbia
Slovakia
Slovenia

Thanks! :)

Hello Vilmalotta:)

Albania, if I am not travelling alone(Albanians are not used to seeing women out alone). It is not heavily touristed, so it would be interesting.
The capital of Slovenia. The nightlife is good.

I would be equally interested, in all the rest of those on your list, so I cant make a third choice.

Slovenia and Slovakia are meant to have breath-taking landscapes. I'd definitely go for these 2 on first place, and for the other 2, i'm like Mel, can't really make a choice.

Would go for Albania, Serbia and Bosnia, but adding Macedonia which is not on the list I know.
Other countries are beautiful as well.
Note that visiting Slovakia though means you have to cross borders with Hungary and/or Austria. I am saying this because you litteraly said four countries.

Thanks!
I guess that cleared things up a bit... although this far Croatia is the only one without a vote. ;)
I'm just doing some pre-planning and wanted to hear your opinion.

I really enjoyed Slovakia and Slovenia. Wonderful landscapes and great people. Ljubljana is real gem of a city that hasn't been tarnished by mass tourism like Prague, Krakow & Budapest.

I haven't been to the others so I can't comment!

I would prefer Croatia. We always drop by there everytime we travel to spain ...

Of the ones on your list I've only been to Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia. I've spent the most time in Slovenia and absolutely loved it - I was based in Bohinj, in the mountains and by a beautiful lake, just gorgeous. In Slovakia I've only been to Nitra, a not terribly interesting town, so it's not really fair to comment - because there are some much nicer parts of the country. As for Croatia, well here I know the capital, Zagreb, but I've not been anywhere else. This is a really nice small town - not really like a capital city at all, and easy to get around and see the main sights.

Oh, and the people in all three countries were pretty nice too!

My favourite itinerary would begin in Albania (all of it!), including a brief visit to Lake Ohrid in Macedonia, then continuing north into Montenegro (both the coast and inland), then onto Herzegovina via Dubrovnik (but only because you want us to chose four countries). Continuing to Bosnia and last of ending my journey in Serbia.
In general, the peoples in the countries you listed are friendly and hospitable with the friendliness and hospitality increasing the further you travel southwards.

Albania
A beautiful, unspoilt and mountainous country where tourism is still in its infancy.

Bosnia-Herzegovina
A beautiful and mountainous country with rich and interesting cultures. Most tourists only visit Sarajevo, Mostar and Medugorje, but it has some very nice towns beyond that.

Croatia
Extraordinarily beautiful coastline, but unfortunately absolutely overrun by tourists in recent years. Especially Split, Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik are bursting at their seems. Inland Croatia is quite a drawback if you've seen the coast first. Zagreb is definitely not a highlight of Croatia.

Serbia
I haven't been their, but from what I read and heard I got the impression that Belgrade is a bit of party-place (without being overrun and overpriced) and the rest of the country is littered with monasteries.

Slovakia
I haven't been there either, but Slovakia is known in Western Europe mostly for the invasion of Bratislava by British stag parties and its national trauma from the film 'Hostel'.

Slovenia
A small but great country with a surprisingly varied landscape and a Slavic culture (friendly people, good food) that is heavily influenced by Austria (well-organised, tidy).

First I would visit Albania.. I go there almost every year and never get enough of it. It brings you something different each time you go there. If you want to go and relax in white clear blue water beaches/islands.

Explore the breathtaking nature with family or friends or simply learn about its long history.

Second I would Visit Montenegro.. Have been there a few times and it really is a nice place to relax.

Thirdly I would close the trip to Croatia and its beautiful coastline I have never been here but i have learned a lot about it.

So my trip consists of the Adriatic 3. Croatia, Albania, Montenegro.
