Hi Kim,

Well, the most common job for foreigners is English teacher, but they usually hire only native speakers from English-speaking countries. I've been teaching English in China for four years (plus 2 years in Korea). I love living here, as do most foreigners. Beiijing is great- you can get just about anything there- but not cheap, by Chinese standards. There are lots of other interesting cities in China. I live in Dalian, which is on the coast, very modern and has a large Korean and Japanese population, as well as the native Chinese. It's a lot cleaner than Beijing, too, with a milder climate (BJ has very hot summers, and freezing cold winters).

Whatever you do, I'd definitely recommend getting a job, and work visa, before coming to China. They are getting much stricter about visas now. My Nigerian friend overstayed his visa, and is now spending 30 days in a Chinese jail, before being deported. And that's after he paid the fine.

It's really easy to work as English teacher in China (including Beijing) event for non-native speakers.
