Hi guys,

Need some help, On October 22nd me and my GF will be arriving in Mexico city (Benito Juarez airport) for the start of out 12/18 month round the world trip, we arrive in the early evening and would love if you guys could give us some ideas on cheap hotels/ hostels that are easy to get to from the airport and that will let us settle down, we will be on a tight budget of roughly $40 a day and this will cover accommodation, food, transport ext but would be willing to stretch the budget on the first few days if this means getting a nice place to stay for a few days.

any help would be much appreciated.

Ian x

in mexico city, the best option is Coyote Flaco hostel, in Coyoacan. Its the most pleasant area in the city, laid back, a bit hippy, with colonial parks, excelent cathedrals, and a nice bar scene. look it up in the internet, for precise location. its a pleasant walk from Viveros metro station. the place is nice and clean, with a garden and kitchen. its only 10us a night, and if you call the owner "vashi", they can even give u a disccount (some sort of a travel brotherhood password). also, they are the only ones that take you to the underground ruins of moctezuma's lost palace in the outskirts of the city. its very little heard about, but its a catacom kind of palace floded in water, you get to see many sculptures and statues, u have to take torches and a little boat, everything under the city, the place rised by dozens of aztec pilars. and it really looks its all abandoned and secret. the "brotherhood" has also some other things going on, but i wasnt invited (they have to invite you). where u have to take torches and a little boat. by far, that was the most thrilling experience i had in mexico. a good way to start your trip, even if you just want to see the most touristic areas of the city.
