Hi does anyone have any recommendations for cheap rooms in hong kong? we've had a look at a few places on this site in Chungking Mansions and it seems a little daunting, help would be much appreciated as we arrive this Sunday (nothing like forward planning!!)

i have just booked this place for January - I read some reviews and it seemed ok. I didn't fancy Chungking mansions either and this hostel seemed to be better.

I stayed in Yui Fai Guesthouse (check http://www.yiufaiguesthouse.com). It's only HD350/night for 3 persons (small but comfy room). The place is in Nathan Road Tsim Sha Tsui and its very accessible, safe and clean, just accross MTR station and it's where most tourist stay. You can also check or Wonderful Inn http://www.wonderfulinn.com/index.php.

The Chunking & Mirador mansions are cheap but pretty slummy, I'd stick with some of the suggestions above as I stayed at Chunking and probably wouldn't repeat the experience :)

I don't know myself, I'm in the process of planning a trip to china too, so I'd be interested to know as well.

Can anyone say if it is easy to book accomodation when out there and travelling? Is the internet readily available to look for places ahead? Are hostels common or hotels more likely? I'm trying to do this on a tight budget!

I very cheap option is couchsurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.com/) -- but this is certainly not for everybody.

Tim
