Backpacking in oz!!!!

Hi,
Heading to oz on my own hopefully end of January 2008, has anyone been or thinking of going with oz intro? thought it would be a good idea as they sort all the important stuff out (not that i'm lazy!!)for you, plus i think it will be less daunting and a good way to meet people as i'm a traveling virgin. Also how much money is a sensible amount to take (i'll hopefully be working and traveling).

Is anyone heading out the same time? would be grateful for some words of wisdom as i'm quite nervous but v.excited about the whole thing.

I'm heading to Oz on my own at the end of october. I'm hoping to go with Oz intro too. So i'll let you know how it goes! I would much rather land in Oz knowing I'll have people to get to know in my first week, rather than land there and have no idea! Also, the trips sound like amazing fun! I'm a travelling virgin aswell! Scary much?!?!
Anyhoo, message me back, and we can maybe meet up, share a beer and have a good chat.
I can't advise you about money and what not, as I have no idea. I have a friend out in Perth, who is on a working holiday visa, and she says you can keep yourself afloat money wise by working, and that there are good jobs available if your willing to look for them. I'm hoping she's right!!

A friend and I are arriving in Oz at the Beg of Feb 08. We are arriving in Darwin but will be in Cairns by mid Feb and plan on travelling down the East coast so if your around, give us a shout!

I'll be in landing in Cairns mid November and getting to Sydney for Christmas & New Year, after that, Oz is my Oyster.

I'm going with a friend & have more friends joining me later but I know loads of people who've done it alone & it's really not a problem. I wouldn't worry about paying any company to help you. They make money on your nerves.

As soon as you get to your hostel you will meet people going it alone. If you're a bit worried book a hostel online for the 1st couple of nights so you have a destination when you get there.

I will too be doing the oz intro, about feb/march time. I myself am a virgin traveller and would like to meet a few people and settle in the first week before I look for a job. Its abit scary thinking im going alone, but cant wait and know the nexts few months will really drag!!

I did a working holiday a couple years ago, not through oz intro, but I see its a similar organization to mine, gets you sorted with visas, bank accounts, tax id numbers etc. As for money, its no problem finding a job in Sydney (the only place I looked). Sure there's tons of backpackers, but there are tons of bars, restaurants, offices, whatever, that rely on backpacker labor. You live cheaply with a couple other people and you'll have no problem saving money to travel. I saved enough in 3.5 months working for 5 weeks around SE Asia and another 2.5 weeks with oz experience.
Australia is an amazing place, and I'm sure that visiting once won't be enough for you. I'm leaving on my RTW this weekend and I'm heading back to oz for about a month. You'll love it.

I am going to Oz February 23rd 2008 landing in Sydney and can't wait i am also going alone which is pretty scary.
