So in the middle of our 2 month trip, we are going to find ourselves in Dubrovnik. Currently we have 2 options for heading inland from there. First being a ferry to Bar, then a train to Belgrade and then onward to Romania. Second, flying out of Dubrovnik into Budapest, then trains from there into Romania and Bulgaria. My main question is the train from Bar to Belgrade. I fear it will be a 12 +hour train ride, and overnight not bad, but the easy option of flying out is soo appealing. I definatly want the cheaper option etc... So what is everyones experience getting out of Dubrovnik?
Thanks,
Marc
Departure options from Dubrovnik
hello, there is a train Bar - Belgrade daily and it is a 12+ hours ride but usually overnight with sleeping it's not too bad.
the other option is to go from Dubrovnik to Tivat (in Montenegro) - 100 km, there is a bus from Dubrovnik bus station, and there you can find a flight Tivat - Belgrade (minimum 3 times daily sometimes even 5 times per day) with JAT or Montenegro airlines. the price is approximately 80 euros one way, and 120 return, but it is an easy, quick way to get to Belgrade. i am not sure about cheap flights from dubrovnik to Budapest but you can check. Dubrovnik airport is some 25 km outside of the town.
check those options. from Belgrade, there is a train to Sofia in the evening or train to Bucurest in the afternoon around 4.
Hey, thanks for the advice. I have a feeling that we will end up taking the train. An overnight for 12 hours isn't too bad. I was really hoping for a faster option, but I think the train will be the cheapest.
Cheers,
Marc
