Quoting tracediva

I would add the cell phone and iPod chargers. What good are either of these items if they are dead. Batteries will not help revive them!

. Completely agree with Tracediva... Note... Update your iPod and tablets with new movies music etc... For those boring moments on LCCs. Or. When You are bored with time to kill in your hotel/motel/back packers and flights with nothing to watch or read ..

For Southeast Asia:

-respectable clothing
-casual attire
-footwear suitable for climbing and walking

For what not to take: necessity-or-desireables-what-you-dont-need-when-travelling-the-wolrd

Haha, brilliant - a thirteen year old post, defunct four years ago and now revived by a "travel blogger" - amazing!

I would add a multitool knife(but something with bigger blade and a spoon, if possible). Also, a paper map.
Yes, I am aware that google maps exist. A paper map can still be much more convenient.

I never use traveler's checks anymore as you have to cash them at the bank or PO and they really aren't much more protective than cash. I have given un-countersigned checks to someone and he had no trouble cashing it. The only time they might be useful is for a teen who is too young to have a credit card.

If you have a smart phone, you don't need a GPS as your phone can have the maps on it. You probably do not need camera film anymore either.

When I am copying my passport, I also copy the front and back of my credit cards - that way I have both the number of the card and the number to call to report it missing.

I take return address stickers to label luggage or to give people my address.

If you are going to take a laptop, thumb drives may be useful.

I take a small notebook to write down expenses in. Also a little fabric measuring tape.

If I am going to be swimming, I take goggles. If I am going to be snorkeling I take my own mask (fins take too much room)
