I have 4 weeks off uni over Christmas and around £1000 to spend. Where can I go???!! Im looking for somewhere with a non-western culture, can anyone recommend somewhere cheap and interesting? I know its a little vague but I can't make a decision. Maybe somewhere in Africa? HELP!!!!

Very vague!
Lets look at it logically.
£1000. Out of that will have to be your flight, so that limits your radius a bit. Check out flight prices to various places around that time. Some can be very expensive at that time. Africa is cheap but not as cheap as Asia. Decide on your budget, are you going to be whooping it up (probably!) or sedately sitting next to a beach (probably not!). Work it out realistically and what is left is your flight.
When you say interesting, what is your idea of interesting?????

Yeah sorry just read that back to myself and realised how ridiculous is sounds!!!

Firstly, I have about £2000 (typo) and when I say interesting I mean I don't want to be sat on a beach in Benidorm or some such place...I have travelled fairly extensively through China, SE Asia, NZ and Oz so would rather not backtrack on myself. Also would rather avoid Europe as I don't really fancy city break style travel. Really fancy the idea of Africa, but may be getting a work placement there for 4 months next year so was thinking maybe of India but it's not somewhere I have any knowledge of. I will be travelling alone as a single female so would like somewhere safe (in so far as you can say somewhere is safe!), likely to have other backpackers as I would like to be with "friends" for Christmas and cheap enough to get around. I have looked at flights and I am really going to have to spend upwards of £1000 on that which sucks but it's the price you pay if you want to see new places I suppose...

So, basically somewhere with a non-Western culture which is popular with backpackers but not so popular with package tours as that will bump up the price of flights around Christmas if people are going for all inclusive festive seasons away...ok I'm thinking out loud now but hopefully that will shead some light on what I'm after...I just need guidance!!!!

I would go to India. Flights are a fairly decent price from the UK, and your money will go a long way there. Plus you will have loads you can do in 4 weeks.

I think wherever you go the robbing travel agents here will bump up the prices at xmas.
