I posted this because there are so few real Haiti travel sites out there, not really spam. Try to find a decent Haiti travel site...??

No matter how good the purpose, the forum rules are very clear on this point: "NO website postings for promotional purposes are permitted."
If this was allowed, a thousand other members would know ten thousand other websites just as deserving of attention, and spammers would inject another hundred thousand, trying to appear to be just as deserving, and any and all real helpful discussion would become impossible to find.

I remember you having posted in this thread about Haiti....if there are any tourists at all to Haiti.
Sander is right technically, but I have seen so many sites for example on african safaris and recently again budget airlines in Southeast Asia.
I guess it's up to the moderator to decide about the real spam. I know a site is a site, but I guess anyone can see differences....
As information about Haiti is scarce I vote for a 'sustained'
Maybe you can add a textlink instead of the site itself, doesn't matter that much though. In other threads I have seen replies which were allowed this way, and also naming the site without a direct link is sometimes allowed, especially when it is not the first post but a reply.

I'm leaving the thread up, but removing the URL. Sander is quite right and the forum rules on this are quite clear and always have been. The reason they are that clear is because it doesn't leave grey areas where one person can post a url, but another can't. Even whether a site is commercial or not is not taken into consideration. I've removed links to personal blogs, photo galleries and the like just to keep the standard.

Since you own the site, I'm sure you also realize that posting a post like this out of the blue so to speak, is promoting your site. I remember doing the same when we first started off. I can tell you that the traffic you are going to get from such posts is miniscule though for several reasons.

1. any site that leaves up a post like that has a forum which no one is using otherwise it would be moderated better and the post would be removed.
2. you are targetting people that in 99.99% of the cases probably have no desire whatsoever to go to Haiti now or in the near future. If they are thinking of it and hanging out on the forums here, they'd be asking questions and although we'd frown on you mentioning your link with every single question on Haiti, at least posting it then is actually going to be helping someone. We do by the way remove entire batches of posts by one person because their only post is check out xxx . It might go unnoticed a few times but it always is noticable in the end. If there's actually some content in the post, no problem.

There are at least a couple of ways that we allow business owners to promote their sites. The best in my opinion is to become a relatively active user and maybe upload some pics. You wouldn't believe the number of times people visit the member profiles to see some background information on the user. If you state clearly that you own a business, most users appreciate it. Also, once you've got a few posts under your belt at some stage it becomes possible to post a link on your profile to a personal site.

Last but not least, you could always use the contact form to contact the person in charge of the links on Travellerspoint (happens to be me :) ) and see if you could get your link listed on a relevant Haiti page like the wiki guide to Haiti. We're especially happy to add links when content is added to the wiki travel guide
