Hi Itchy,

Obviously you know what you want to do yourself, but my advice would be dont travel with a much bigger rucksack than the one you have. It's just drudgery having to lug anything bigger around. I had a Berghaus 65 litre with a 15 litre daypack, and some days I just felt like leaving the whole thing on the side of the road!

Most of us travel with much more than we need really. But if you do decide to go for another rucksack, the Berghaus rucksacks are really well designed with lots of easy access to the whole of your pack, usually a bottom compartment for your boots, a waterproof cover etc etc.

Check out the Berghaus SPirit. ;)

I agree - 65 should be the maximum you will need and would be pretty heavy when full. I took a 55L travelling with me but as samsara says, we always travel with more than we need and i think next time i would try and take an even smaller bag than that.

try and get one that opens round the side rather than a top loader as it gets very annoying having to unpack and repack your stuff each time you need something!

Thanks guys ... i've realised i dont have too much to take away with me initially but thinking that i'll collect as i go along .... (im a girl afterall )!

will keep an eye out for smthing same size but with side access....
i travelled around Oz and now you mention it ... i do remember how annoying it was trying to squeeze my hand to the bottom to find a stray flip flop!!!!!

cheers for that!!

I started with a 75L and a 30L day pack in south america, have been travelling the last 3 months with only the 30, have been to colombia, ecuador and peru with only this, my big pack is in storage till I head home. will never take so much crap with me again!!
