Hey guys, this is my first post here, I was just wondering a few things...

First of all I'm planning on taking a year out before I go to University. My plan is to spend three months in America, then work my way down into Peru, then fly over to Japan and then head to India, then fly to Europe and work my way home from there.

But I was just wondering about America, and the prices, as I presume I'll be using alot of the Greyhound buses, are there any other bus services? and how cheap are the prices?

Also how common is hitchhiking?

Hitchhiking, it's illegal in a lot of places, and it can be dangerous. Now I've picked up hitchers in the past but with the craziness going around (and granted it's a small percent), I don't think I'd do it again. Come to think of it I haven't seen a hitcher in years.

As for the bus, well it isn't the greatest. It'll get you around but the service is slow and bus stations are often in bad areas. You could consider an Amtrak pass instead. Amtrak goes lots of places. There are also regional bus services (including Amtrak itself) but the level of service depends on where you are.

I strongly discourage you from hitchhiking in the US, for your personal safety. Public transit options are always the better choice. Cheers,
