Hi. Does anyone know which is the best way to go from Cesky Krumlov to Budapest on December?
Should we take a train or is it better to get a bus to Prague and then a train to Budapest.

Also, is there a place on the internet where can I find the bus timetable from Prague to Cesky Krumlov?

I've been told that taking a bus is better/safer. I took a bus to Prague from Vienna, and another bus from Prague to Budapest and it was fine, and inexpensive.

I guess that you gotta go from Cesky Krumlov to Prague first. Bus is definitely the best option, at least for this little bit. Trains take much longer and they are not cheaper, plus you have to change trains in Ceske Budejovice, so the journey by bus lasts about 2 hours, more a less, if I remember right, and the journey by train lasts almost the double.

From Cesky Krumlov to Budapest the fastest option would definitely be via Linz. You would need to change trains in Cesky Budovice, but most hostels have got the schedule for trains and buses to Prague, Linz and other places at hand. From Linz you should easily be able to get to Budapest via Vienna with fast Express or EuroCity train.

Note that this is not the cheapest option. For the cheapest option by train I would use for train schedules running through Slovakia and Hungary, avioding Austria alltogether. I would then play around with to get at prices. Note that cannot price tickets that cover more than one country. You'll need to split up the journey into two or three parts to get an estimate for the ticket price.

EDIT: I looked at the connections provided by, and the cheapest option would run via Brno and Bratislava. There seems to be only one connection going this way, departing Cesky Krumlov at 14:41. You would need to stop over for the night in Bratislava (very nice city btw) unless you want to stay from midnight to 5 am in Nove Zamky. Price from C. Krumlov to Brats is about 21 EUR, and another 22 EUR from Brats to Budapest.

OTOH the price for the ticket to Linz is 17 EUR plus 65 EUR to Budapest.

The best option concerning speed and price however seems to offer the connection leaving Cesky Krumlov 17:55 to Prague and then catching the night train from Prague to Budapest. The price for this should be in the range of 50 EUR plus fees.
