I have booked a room at the Uno House in Kyoto, I had seen it on a web site and thought it would be a OK place to stay and Ok for my budget. I have now discovered a web site that had comments on the Uno house and photos of it from 2002, and it was not very pretty. I wanted to know if anyone has stayed there recently, and what you honestly thought of it. I appreciate any comments, If you have any other place in mind also that is central in Kyoto.

I stayed at Uno House in 2002 and totally enjoyed it.

If you're looking for a clean and tidy place to stay then this isn't the place for you, but if you want somewhere with a great communal atmosphere and a decent location, then I would definitely recommend it.

i stayed there in february. the place is shabby, compared to most japanese hostels i saw. and the tatami floor felt quite crowded. and it was cold at night.. but that was winter. you get what you pay for, and uno house is cheap.

but despite this i liked it best of the godknowshowmany hostels i stayed at in japan. don't know if i can attribute it to the hostel itself, but i befriended more people there than in all the other hostels combined. maybe because it was smaller and more crowded. so anyway i'd recommend it.

it is the worst guest house i ever saw in my lif.
dirty, crouded and the rooms are tiny.
there are many many other places.

Please don't go there!!! :(
Some friends and I have booked it through the internet last year at my first visit to Kyoto and when we got there we were shocked! The place was filthy, the rooms were tiny (1x1 meters...really!) and the price was not relatively low. One of us which actually lived in Kyoto for 7 years, got furious! this was the first time he ever had to scold a native Japanese. We ran out from there.

Please take a look at the photos section in Uno's website. (At the bottom of the English page)

When you'll get there you will understand why they haven't put any photos!

It's a typical low budgeted tourist trap! BEWARE!
