In Beijing, I recommend the Templeside House Hostel which is very clean, quiet and located near the Forbidden City.

"China World Hotel" is the best one in Beijing, i think. Although it's a little bit expensive, you will love it and it really worth.

In Beijing I liked the Far East Youth Hostel and Leo Hostel was a pretty good place too they are both in a great little hutong which was my favorite part of Beijing. Its about a 10 minute walk to Tienmen Square and the Forbidden City, and maybe 20 to the Temple of Heaven and close enough to the nightlife that you'll be pretty happy.

its just south and east of Tienmen.
